About this design

We're all searching for ways to channel our anxieties and worries into something positive. We don't want to mask the pain; we want to face it head on and find a way to get over it. And this may sound like a pipe dream, but with the right mindset, we can actually change our lives for the better. Here’s one way: by letting courage into, and fear out of, our systems. The idea is to replace the negative thoughts that grip us with positive ones. If we really want to improve our lives, and get rid of the negative thinking that has been holding us back, we need to start by changing the way we think.

Our brains have two thinking modes — automatic and manual. Automatic mode, which also happens to be our default mode, is fast, instinctive, and well, automatic; these involuntary thoughts occur without us really thinking about them — fear, for example. By contrast, manual mode is slow, deliberate, conscious, and well, manual; these voluntary thoughts are determined by options that we decide to make available and act upon — courage, for example. And here’s the kicker: automatic mode can be dangerous; because it’s too easy to interpret situations through it; it can create the perfect emotional storm, and get us all worked up and caught up in fear, anger, or stress; it can make us feel like our worlds have fallen apart when, in reality, there might be no problem at all.

Fear is fueled by anxiety and worry; and by switching to manual mode when required, we're able to develop courage, confront our anxieties and worries, accept and overcome our fears, and find our inner peace.
